Our brand new HEROES category honors military and emergency personnel – heroes that put their lives on the line every day for the greater good of our country and community, including active duty and reserve military, fire fighters, coastguard, EMT and police.

How the HEROES category works

Since heroes come in all shapes and sizes, rather than competing in a single round together, athletes who sign up for this category will not actually compete separately to gain this title and prize.

Instead, athletes will compete in their appropriate class and category, and will be judged for the HEROES category at the same time, adhering to all rules and guidelines for their particular class and category.

Entrants in the HEROES category will include a short line about their active service or rescue career in their bio to be read while they are on stage.

Judging

Judges will be selecting prize winners for this category based on multiple factors:

  • Judging notes from individual categories.
  • Over-all impression.
  • Remarkable traits that make an athlete stand out as deserving recognition.

Judging for this category is purely at the discretion of the judges and is not necessarily based on how well an athlete scored in individual category rounds.

Waived association fees

All athletes are required to pay an annual WFA membership fee of $50 to compete. This fee is waived for all active duty and emergency service personnel as a thank you for your service.

What to Wear

HEROES entrants compete in the attire required by their chosen class and category — see that category’s page for attire rules.
